Apr 14, 2026

Your feet play a major role in balance, stability, and movement, so foot problems are a leading but often overlooked cause of falls, especially in older adults. Poor senstion like neuropathy reduses the feeling in your feet making it harder to sense the ground and maitain balance. Foot pain from bunions, arthritis, heel spurs, or plantar fasciitis causes proplr to shift weight abnormally inscreasing instability. Even long and thick toenails can catch on socks or shoes. Calluses and corns change pressure points and cracked heels can cause pain and alter walking. Choosing the wrong shoes can increase falling by wearing loose slippers, high heels, flats or backless shoes.
